Pedregalejo, a cool and hip gem just a bike ride away from Malaga
Pedregalejo is a charming and surprisingly quiet neighbourhood (or barrio) that keeps the essence of coastal living in Malaga. Its beaches are almost hugged by picturesque low-rise buildings and colourful houses that still tell the story of a time when the area's main activity was fishing.
With a lively seaside promenade, and a rich history, this district has become a beloved destination for locals and tourists alike.
A Coastal Gem
Pedregalejo's main allure lies in its quiet beaches, away from traffic and only disturbed by the sound of its visitors.
The beach is dotted with traditional chiringuitos, beachside restaurants where visitors can savour fresh seafood with their toes almost in the sand, all while enjoying panoramic views of the sea.
Getting to Pedregalejo from mostly anywhere in Malaga City is quite easy, but a bike ride is definitely our preferred option! The coast line offers a convenient bike lane, flat and right by the water, making it a really enjoyable experience.

Historical Roots
While this barrio is renowned for its coastal charm, it also boasts a rich history that adds depth to its character. Originally a fishing village, the neighbourhood has kept its maritime traditions, evident in the colourful fishing boats –jábegas– that still line the shores.
Paseo Marítimo (Promenade)
The Paseo Marítimo, or seaside promenade, is the heartbeat of Pedregalejo. Lined with palm trees and overlooking the sea, it offers a perfect setting for leisurely strolls, jogging, or doing yoga on the sand.
The promenade is adorned with open-air cafes, where you can relax with a coffee or enjoy a drink while basking in the sea breeze.
It's also a great spot to watch the sun rise over the usually calm Mediterranean sea.

Gastronomic Delights
Pedregalejo is a gastronomic paradise, particularly for seafood enthusiasts. The beachfront chiringuitos serve an array of fresh catches, from sardines skewered on espetos to paella brimming with local flavours and aromas. These establishments offer a unique dining experience, combining delicious cuisine with the ambiance of the Mediterranean.
Some of its most popular spots include Pez Tomillo, perfect for some fine dining, La Chancla, with great ambiance for breakfast, coffee or a cold drink, or La Galerna, a hip, more informal spot where you can bring your doggo as well!
Summing Up
Whether you're unwinding on its beaches, savouring the freshest seafood, or exploring its quiet streets, Pedregalejo offers an enchanting escape that captures the heart and soul of Malaga's coastal beauty.
